PCS Observatory v2.1.0 Released — From Earth to the Local Group

PCS Observatory v2.1.0 has been released as a stable scientific visualization baseline spanning Earth, the Solar System, nearby stars, the Milky Way, and the Local Group.

PCS Observatory v2.1.0 has been formally released as a stable and frozen scientific visualization baseline.

This version extends the observatory from Earth-system monitoring into a multiscale astronomical exploration environment covering the Solar System, nearby stars, the Milky Way, and the Local Group.

Earth → Solar System → Nearby Stars → Milky Way → Local Group

This release includes

  • Earth-system observation and regional modes
  • The Sun and eight planets
  • Eleven representative natural satellites
  • NASA, JPL, USGS, Voyager, Galileo, Cassini, and LROC mission imagery
  • JPL Horizons DE441 ephemeris cache and orbital-element fallback
  • Scientific Scale and Exhibition Scale
  • Gaia EDR3 GCNS nearby-star catalogs at 10, 25, 50, and 100 parsecs
  • Local star search, selection, data-quality layers, and proper-motion analysis
  • A Milky Way reconstruction based on catalog observations and Reid et al. 2019 spiral-arm data
  • Sagittarius A*, the Galactic Center, 199 HMSFR tracers, and Magellanic-system views
  • M31, M33, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, and 102 Local Group catalog records
